This weekend will kick off the fall CSA program for the farm and it looks like we may end up having a good long fall season. The temps are back in the normal range and cool evenings and mornings will indeed sweeten up those greens that we have planted out in the field. Second to only spring I enjoy the fall season here on the farm. A lot of folks have been asking me about the fall CSA and signing up for this season’s CSA. I am happy and a little sad to say that the fall CSA is full. Last weekend one of our summer CSA members was not happy at all to find the program full having not sign-up earlier in the season. I did drastically limit the number of shareholders for the fall season after suffering such a horrific summer season this year in late July. I wanted to make sure just in case the heat and drought continued on that we could supply the CSA without cutting shareholders or basket contents. Just a reminder that during the spring and summer you can make a $30 deposit to hold a slot in the fall CSA…right from the farm’s website. Because the farm’s CSA program has a waiting list and always fills (thank you) up really quickly especially for the spring and summer…if you are remotely thinking about joining the CSA make that deposit…its a small security price to pay even if your situation changes and you find you are unable to participate later on. Also keep an eye out for updates regarding our 2011 spring season CSA deposits which we will be taking after November this season. Again this will hold your share for coming season. Last year the CSA was full within 2-weeks after opening.
FALL CSA SHAREHOLDERS:
If you haven’t already done so please go to our farm’s website Madison Creek Farms and download the pdf file of our CSA Handbook. There is a lot of information you need to know about the program. Also make sure you sign up here on the blog to receive all notices when we post updates. You can do that by clicking the icon for email on the right hand side of the blog site. This is how we communicate with all our CSA members and it is important that you read these update so you will know if a pickup date has changed as well as helpful information, recipes and tips to help you with your farm share.
We will be holding our Fall CSA gathering this Saturday at 10:30am here on the farm. I have to tell you I am excited about getting to host this gathering for our fall shareholders. Our Spring/Summer gathering was scheduled the weekend of the flood so the season started with out with a bunch of new shareholders not know what to do, where to go nor really anything about how the program works. We just started them picking up. I could really tell a difference in how the shareholders that attend the gathering first feel much more comfortable when we walk them though the farm, and what is what regarding the CSA. We will be serving a little food, lemonade and friendship. Not to mention your 1st fall CSA share pickup. So we are excited…we hope you are too! Be sure not to wear open-toed shoes to the farm for we will be doing a farm tour through the field. Sunglasses, hat and blanket is up to you. You will need to be ready with your check for the remainder of your fall CSA balance minus your deposit. Also remember there is a $20.00 basket fee that will need to be added into you fall share check unless you are a returning shareholder from the summer program than your basket fee has been paid already. If you have any questions please email me or better yet post them in the comment section here on the blog somebody else may be wondering the same thing.
The flowers are blooming so if any of you summer shareholders need a farm fix…come on out you all can cut flowers free for the rest of the season.
See you all this here on the farm!
