This is the year we are opening the farm up to hosting farm weddings and private events. After years of being in the flower business as a grower and designer I guess you could say this is a natural step for us to take. But I will tell you it is not one to be taken lightly by an stretch of the imagination. Weddings can be very stressful for all involved and I like to keep my farm free and easy…with minimal drama. We have enough drama from mother nature. The last few months we have been working out the details for hosting these on-farm private events and what that would require from us in terms of infrastructure and landscape design as well as other variables like additional insurance and liabilities.
The main reservation that both Mark and I feel a bit negative about in regards to hosting these type of events is the over consumption of alcohol. Having a bunch of drunks running all over the farm…tramping our crops and Lord forbid messing with the farm’s animals is worrisome for us. I have designed for enough weddings to have seen first hand how things get out of hand when excessive alcohol is present. After talking with other venue owners that hold weddings and event some have decided to only host dry events entirely, Mark and I are still working out what our own policy on alcohol will be. I believe if we don’t allow alcohol all together we may lose several opportunities.
With the new pavilion patio and ceremony area we should be ready to begin hosting these events in March 2011.
With the holiday season just around the bend our family is spending a lot of time together….we were snowed in for most of last week…Lucca out of school…fun! We are looking forward to a nice low key next couple of weeks….then seed starting time for me.
