Farm Open Saturday 9-2pm
Last Saturday was the opening day for our on-farm market. How much fun it was to see all those familiar faces we haven’t seen all winter plus we got to meet so many new people that had never been to the farm before. The market is and as been from the first day open a community gathering spot for people that want to spend a little time hanging out with nature. Okay…maybe it was the strawberry rhubarb pie…either way it really is such a joy for Mark and I get to be a part of our local community. This weekend we will be doing much the same thing as last…cutting those big beautiful heads of Jericho Romaine lettuces and pulling up those sweet spring onions…ect…ect…ect.. This weekend we do have our CSA shareholder coming to the farm for their pickup and for those of you that are not sure what a CSA is or how it works it truly is something to see for yourself in action. Over the course of the spring and summer season these shareholders that have in advance bought a share in the farm’s production. They are the investors of the farm for the season and really the backbone of getting this farm up and running every spring. I think of these folks as our local hero’s for they step up and secure a local, organic food source for themselves and the excess from their investment allows our neighbors to in-turn reap the benefits through the market, restaurants and food banks we supply with fresh produce. Not every year is great here on the farm. Last year really was tough and we didn’t have really enough to even cover our CSA let alone the market. But so far this season has rocked! Thank you to our shareholders for believing in us and our local economy for their dollar spent stays right here in Tennessee…no food miles, no waste of energy and no toxic poisons used to supply this fresh food and we all of us that live in this community benefit greatly from each shareholder’s taking that risk and hoping for a good growing season.

Fabulous Greens Made Simple
Swiss chard, Kale and Braising Greens~ Simple recipes and tips on how to prepare and care for your farm fresh greens. This is a free cooking workshop and one that will really come in handy for those of you that are interested in learning more about these wonderful, healthy super foods. The workshop takes about 30-45 minutes. It will be held in the Farmhouse kitchen. Workshop will start 10:30am. Seating and space is limited , you are welcome to bring your own chair if you like.
