Salad Days!

These are the days for salads…lots of them. Spring lettuces and greens are natures way of signaling a change in our natural diets and food source. Once winter has come to an end and our high fat and carb diets nature says lighten up…and gives us all the foods we need to do just that. If we just pay attention to what food are in season there would be little need to count calories. Kale is a power food..pack full of all the good things that kicks your body into releasing stored fats. High in iron and vitamins your body needs to transition into a lighter summer fare. We start out with these crops because that is what naturally grows this time of year…and for a reason. Butter lettuce makes way to heavier romaine lettuce that gives way to swiss chards and collard greens in which makes room for broccoli and early summer crops like squash and cucumbers, beets and carrots..ect.

This coming week will be another CSA pickup with the star of the baskets being fresh strawberries. We have lettuces that are ready and need to go home with our shareholders so We are adding a couple of early pickup dates along with our regular Saturday pickup date. These early pickup day have limited space…so if you are interested in either early pickup day please let me know..either email or comment on the farm’s Facebook post for early pickup.
