The
Farm Experience-> Madison
Creek Farms with its historical charm and natural beauty maybe reminiscent
of a by-gone era. But beneath this
suburban farmstead outward appearance lays a shining example of a small
farm operating with the future in mind.
The Farm is open to the public April-November Saturday & Sunday 9-2pm The Farm->Just off I65 North and twelve short minutes from Nashville the community of Goodlettsville Tennessee welcomes you. Exit 97 heading east on Long Hollow Pike will take you past the usual offerings of a fast growing suburban area. Once a rural hamlet and home to many legendary Country music artists like Patsy Cline, Bill Monroe, Loretta Lynn and Garth Brooks, Goodlettsville's appeal is one of convenience, scenery and hospitality. Tucked away on Willis Branch Road lies Madison Creek Farms a 46-acre third generation small family organic farm. The Marchetti's (Mark & Peggy) like to refer to their farm as a "Suburban Farmstead" the farm itself is flanked on three sides of the property by large housing developments and a 18-hole golf course. The property has been the Peggy's family for half a century. The farm is comprised of a mixture of natural woodlands, a year-around spring feed creek and a rich fertile valley in which the farmers rises 6-acres of high quality organic vegetables, herbs and beautiful fresh flowers. The old farmhouse circa 1901 was used as sharecropper housing when the farm was in fact part of a much larger farming operation in the late 1800's. Mooney and Loretta Lynn bought the small farm in 1960 and after a small addition to the farmhouse called the farm their family's home for the next 8 years. Mark and Peggy began farming Madison Creek a decade ago and in 2006 completed and the renovation and restoration of the old farmhouse that over the years had fallen into complete disrepair. The Marchetti's meticulously salvaged and reused the original Crabapple stone and massive cedar logs that were harvested from the property and used as trusses in the house fifty years ago. These rustic cedar logs now frame the large porches that welcome and invite visitors to the farm to stay awhile and enjoy the many wonders of this "Suburban Farmstead". Farming Practices -> The
Marchetti's are
committed to farming organically and have farmed within those
standards and beyond since the conception of Madison Creek Farms a decade
ago. It was never a question for the family in regard to their steadfast belief
that their natural ecological system is truly one that is sustainable,
healthier and although can be weedy at times a much more ethical way in
which to grow their high quality crops for their customers as well as
their own
family. "My son enjoys picking strawberries right off the vine, we
let him eat them without a worry in the world". I would never allow
that knowing what I know about conventional farming and the effects of herbicide
and pesticide poisoning "States Peggy".
